Moviemakers of Miami

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21
Moviemakers of Miami
8:30PM
Bill Cosford Cinema
This program celebrates our local film industry with films that have been produced in south Florida or made by filmmakers from the area. Total running time: 72 minutes.
The panel, “Focus on Short Local Narrative,” moderated by Lisa Gottlieb, professor of Motion Pictures at the University of Miami and featuring directors of several of the program’s films, will take place immediately following the screening.

Casper & Kitty – NOMINEE, Best Local

Franco Parente, USA
An erotically tongue in cheek recount of a relationship gone bad plays out in the mind of a broken playboy.

Trumpet for Hire
Narrative, 14:33
Daniel Gordon, USA
What defines you?  Your passions?  Your actions?  The color of your skin?   A young trumpet player aspires to play in a predominantly black jazz club.

Hold On – NOMINEE, Best Local
Narrative, 20:12
Jackie Julio & Doug Olear, USA
Starring Jackie Julio, Doug Olear (The Wire, Something the Lord Made) and Dominic West (300, Chicago), featuring music by Bruce Springsteen, this quirky comedy features Rose, a spirited, quadriplegic, physicist who goes to extreme measures in her quest for romance.   Part romance, part magic realism, this engaging short is sprinkled with absurdity and symbolism, adding a touch of spice for the consummate film lover.

Rolling – NOMINEE, Best Local
Narrative, 32:30
Justin Dec, USA
Fresh out of film school, two best friends get their big break working on a hit TV show, “Citizen’s Arrest: MIAMI,” but they quickly learn that to get to the top, you’ve got to start at the very bottom.
